Independent Election Candidates in Donegal North East are furious with RTE, the national broadcaster over snub in these critical last few days before voters go to the polls.
As the only woman running with 10 other candidates in my constituency I feel particularly angry with RTE this evening as RTE choose the follow-on session with a heart felt discussion on the lack of women in Irish politics. How hypocritical can you get, they had just snubbed the only women running in the Donegal North-East. I was one of the independents there in the lobby of the Radisson Hotel who was refused an interview. RTE say that they only have a duty to list the candidates by name and don’t need to allow us access. If elected I will seek to make RTE more fair and democratic.
See below a joint press release by those who were refused an interview even though some of us were in the lobby of the hotel at the time. We complained to the program producer. We were then promised an opportunity to speak on air after the other had had their say but this never happened
